Batela joins Gravity Wave to promote the cleaning of fishing nets from the Cantabrian sea and ports.

● Batela joins Gravity Wave's Plastic Free Oceans movement to remove more than a ton of discarded fishing nets from the Cantabrian Sea and its ports by 2023. They will jointly give these nets a second life through products that are 100% connected to the sea.
● This collaboration not only represents an important step in reducing marine pollution, but also represents a major boost for Gravity Wave to expand its cleanup operations to the Cantabrian Sea with the help of Batela.
PRESS RELEASE.
- In an effort to protect marine ecosystems and combat plastic pollution in the Cantabrian Sea, Batela, the fashion and home decor brand, is joining the #plasticfreeoceans movement with Gravity Wave to contribute to cleaning up plastic waste and fishing net remains in Cantabrian ports. The goal for 2023 is to collect more than one ton of plastics derived from discarded fishing nets that are polluting and endangering marine ecosystems.
Thanks to this agreement, Gravity Wave, a social and environmental impact company focused until now on collecting marine plastics and discarded fishing nets in the Mediterranean Sea, will begin operating on the Cantabrian coast with Batela.
The deep connection that unites Batela and us with the marine environment and the concern generated by the increase in ocean pollution has led us to open this route that will allow us to remove the equivalent of 200,000 plastic bags from the Cantabrian Sea.
To achieve this goal, we will rely on Gravity Wave, a circular economy initiative that involves various stakeholders in society—from traditional fishermen to businesses and individuals—in the solution to ending ocean plastic pollution. Batela will be the first fashion and home decor brand to join the Gravity Wave project.
The collaboration between Batela and Gravity Wave is not limited to plastic collection, but also extends in a second phase to the creation of recycled decorative products from the plastic collected in the project. This ensures that Batela's products have a positive impact on marine environmental conservation.
Furthermore, one of Gravity Wave's main goals is to prevent marine debris from ending up in landfills or being incinerated. Instead, they seek to give it a second life through the creation of sustainable products that promote the circular economy and reduce the negative impact of plastic on the environment. In this way, Batela and Gravity Wave's efforts focus not only on cleaning up the Cantabrian Sea, but also on the reuse and recycling of collected materials to promote a more sustainable future.
ABOUT BATELA 1991
At Batela, we are dedicated to nautical fashion and decor. Founded in 1991, we launch two fashion catalogs and one decor catalog each season. All of our products are related in some way to the marine world (design, materials, etc.), an environment whose situation we are deeply concerned about. Aware of the impact that all human activities have on all ecosystems in general and marine ecosystems in particular, we believe it is necessary to take all possible measures to minimize this impact and reverse the situation.
ABOUT GRAVITY WAVE
Gravity Wave is a social enterprise, focused on the circular economy and environmental awareness, driven by the goal of solving one of humanity's greatest challenges: plastic pollution in seas and oceans.
We collect plastic from the seabed and ports to transform it into designer products with a long lifespan and high sustainable value, through a circular economy process. We also prevent the plastic that is still generated from ending up back in the waters.
We know we can't do it alone. That's why we're collaborating with fishermen, individuals, businesses, and organizations through the #PlasticFreeOceans movement.
