Batela joins Gravity Wave to promote the cleaning of fishing nets in the sea and ports of the Cantabrian Sea
● Batela joins Gravity Wave's Plastic Free Oceans movement to remove more than a ton of discarded fishing nets from the Cantabrian Sea and its ports during the year 2023. Nets that will jointly be given a second life through 100% products connected with the sea.
● This collaboration not only constitutes an important step in reducing marine pollution, but also represents a great boost for Gravity Wave to expand its cleaning operations to the Cantabrian Sea with Batela.
PRESS RELEASE.
- In an effort to protect marine ecosystems and combat plastic pollution in the Cantabrian Sea, Batela, the fashion and decoration brand, joins the #plasticfreeoceans movement with Gravity Wave to contribute to the cleaning of plastic waste and remains of nets fishing in the ports of the Cantabrian Sea. The goal for 2023 is to collect more than one ton of plastics derived from discarded fishing nets that are contaminating and putting marine ecosystems at risk.
Thanks to this agreement, Gravity Wave, a social and environmental impact company focused to date on the collection of plastics from the sea and fishing nets discarded in the Mediterranean Sea, will begin to operate on the Cantabrian coast with Batela.
The deep relationship that unites us at Batela with the marine environment and the concern that the increase in pollution in the seas generates has led us to open this route that will allow the equivalent of 200,000 plastic bags to be removed from the Cantabrian Sea.
To do this, we will rely on Gravity Wave, a circular economy initiative that involves different actors in society, from traditional fishermen, companies and individuals, in the solution of ending plastic pollution in the seas to achieve this goal. Batela will be the first fashion and decoration brand to join the Gravity Wave project.
The collaboration between Batela and Gravity Wave is not limited to the collection of plastics, but also extends in a second phase to the creation of recycled decoration products from the plastic collected in the project. This ensures that Batela products have a positive impact on the conservation of the marine environment.
In addition, one of Gravity Wave's main objectives is to prevent marine waste from ending up in landfills or being incinerated. Instead, they seek to give them a second life through the creation of products of sustainable value that promote the circular economy and reduce the negative impact of plastic on the environment. In this way, Batela and Gravity Wave's efforts focus not only on cleaning the Cantabrian Sea, but also on the reuse and recycling of collected materials to promote a more sustainable future.
ABOUT BATELA 1991
At Batela we are dedicated to nautical fashion and decoration. Created in 1991, each season we put two fashion catalogs and one decoration catalog on the market. All our articles are related in some way to the marine world (design, materials...), an environment about whose situation we are deeply concerned. Aware of the impact that all human activities have on all ecosystems in general and on marine ecosystems in particular, we see it necessary to take all possible measures to try to minimize it and reverse the situation.
ABOUT GRAVITY WAVE
Gravity Wave is a social, circular economy and environmental awareness company, driven to solve one of humanity's greatest challenges: plastic pollution of seas and oceans.
We collect plastic from the seabed and ports to transform it into designer products with long useful life and high sustainable value, through a circular economy process. In addition, we prevent the plastic that is still generated from ending up back in the waters.
We know that we cannot do it alone. For this reason, we collaborate with fishermen, people, companies and entities through the #Plasticfreeoceans movement.
