BATELA joins Plastic Free Oceans and will remove more than a ton of plastic from the sea.
Thanks to BATELA, starting in 2023, The Gravity Wave organization will begin operating for the first time on the Basque coast and other areas of the Cantabrian Sea, cleaning up plastic waste and fishing net remains.
Our deep connection with the marine environment and our concern about the increasing pollution in our seas have led us to open this route, which will allow us to remove the equivalent of 200,000 plastic bags from the Cantabrian Sea.
At BATELA, we are aware of the state of the oceans and their pollution, which is why we are the first FASHION company to collaborate with Gravity Wave to carry out ocean cleanup and maintenance work. With these actions, we aim to contribute to improving the environmental situation and marine ecosystems.
Who are THE GRAVITY WAVE?
GravityWave is a social enterprise, focused on the circular economy and environmental awareness, driven by the goal of solving one of humanity's greatest challenges: plastic pollution in seas and oceans.
We collect plastic from the seabed and ports to transform it into designer products with a long lifespan and high sustainable value, through a circular economy process. We also prevent the plastic that is still generated from ending up back in the waters.
How do they clean plastic from the seas?
At BATELA, with the support of Gravity Wave, we are taking several steps to ensure this project is effective and efficient. The main mission is to contribute to the preservation of the oceans and reduce their pollution.
WORKING AS A TEAM
Gravity Wave carries out its mission through teamwork with individuals, companies, non-profit foundations, and traditional fishermen who adhere to the #PlasticFreeOceans movement. That's why BATELA trusts Gravity Wave to carry out its projects.
THANKS TO BATELA AND GRAVITY WAVE
Thanks to the partnership between BATELA and Gravity Wave , tons of plastic and nets will be removed from the ocean this year, and we will soon be able to create recycled products from these plastics.
What is done with the plastic?
Gravity Wave promotes a circular and sustainable economy, so the plastic extracted from the sea and collected on the coast to prevent it from reaching the sea is not disposed of on land or incinerated. After a recycling process, it is transformed and reused in different ways to give it a second life. A visible sign of the fight against plastic and the cleanliness of the seas.
At Batela, we are considering the possibility of manufacturing recycled products for our home decor line in the near future.
